Что говорят рынки

Gulf markets walked into the second half breathing easy. Tadawul added half a point and Dubai's index is waving from above 6,000 for the first time. Gold keeps glinting at $4,103 as if it's never heard the word 'downturn,' while Brent eased back after testing $73 yesterday. Bitcoin bounced 1.4% this morning — but it's still licking the wounds of an ugly quarter.

The second half opens on a heart-stopping number

Good morning from Dubai. Yesterday we closed the first half of 2026; today we open the second the way a pearl diver opens his eyes underwater — hunting for the big one before the breath runs out.

And we open on a heart-stopper: Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund says its profit leapt 153% in a single year. Lovely on paper. But as this region teaches you: before you raise your glass, raise an eyebrow and read the footnote.

Bottom line: The 153% is real, but don't build a palace on it. In the Gulf the zeros are many and the details are worth more — read the ruler before you read the number.

Zain Saudi's assembly approved a 449.37-million-riyal dividend for 2025. Gulf telecom reminds investors that, for all the tech noise, it still pays in cash.

Dubai market exceeds 6 thousand points in the first trading in July

Dubai's market opened July above 6,000 points for the first time. More a psychological number than a financial one — but in markets, sentiment is half the game.

Oil rose, with Brent brushing $73.45 before easing today. Crude still sways to regional headlines more than to supply-and-demand tables.

The Gulf Desk

The Gulf speaks one language this morning: investment. REACH bets on proptech, Abu Dhabi plants a compass for maritime business, and Saudi's PIF has everyone chewing on a number… and a counter-number. Three stories, one thread: Gulf capital hunting for a new home.

Real Estate

Property is the beating heart of Dubai's economy, and as tech moves in — see the REACH proptech program — the rules shift: whoever owns the data owns the market. Watch the Land Department's numbers; they're the compass for the second half of the year, not the mood of the brokers.

AI Corner

'$49 billion' is the number of the day in the AI corner — it echoes twice, and it's most likely MGX both times. Add the 'Pax Silica' summit and the picture completes: the UAE doesn't want a seat at the AI table, it wants to build the table.

Stock of the week

Why a bucket of fried chicken may be smarter than your portfolio

Every Wednesday, Shndy's markets editor picks an asset, stock or commodity worth a second look.

The bucket you order on a Friday night might be your calmest investment this year. Americana Restaurants — the empire behind KFC, Pizza Hut and Hardee's across the Gulf — turns the region's appetite into profit with a steadiness many tech stocks would envy.

While bitcoin lurches and oil sways, Americana sells something that ignores interest rates: hunger. Thousands of restaurants from Riyadh to Cairo, and a model that thrives as the young population grows — the Gulf's most abundant resource.

The risk? Margins as thin as a layer of baklava: chicken, oil and rents are all climbing. But when an investor wants a boring, profitable haven, sometimes the answer is on the dinner table, not the trading screen. (An observation, not advice.)

Where will the biggest Gulf opportunity be in H2 2026?

✓ Today's To-Do

  • Read: The Vision 2030 mid-year report — 40 pages, but the executive summary alone earns your morning coffee.
  • Listen: An episode on Gulf sovereign wealth funds and how they quietly move the world's markets.
  • Try: Apply the 'read the standard before the headline' rule to the first earnings story you meet this week.
  • Remember: A big number in the headline always needs a small line in the footnote.

Основа

Dubai's economy is now majority non-oil: trade, tourism, logistics and finance do most of the heavy lifting, while crude contributes less than 1% of the emirate's GDP.
